Uncle Meat is the fifth studio album by The Mothers of Invention, released as a double album in 1969. Uncle Meat was originally developed as a part of No Commercial Potential, a project which spawned three other albums sharing a conceptual connection: We're Only in It for the Money, Lumpy Gravy and Cruising with Ruben & the Jets. Thus, Uncle Meat became the point at which Zappa began to establish himself as a composer and he would return to many of these pieces repeatedly over the course of his career. Uncle Meat is a film written and directed by Frank Zappa, released directly to video in 1987. Principal photography having never been completed, the videocassette is a making of documentary showing rehearsals and background footage from 1968 and interviews with people involved with the uncompleted production.
