Mit diesem Album hat meine Begeisterung R.E.M. begonnen und ich habe sie weit über 100 mal inhaliert. Wer also einen Grund sucht diese Band zu mögen, der sollte hier zugreifen. Mein Lieblingsstücke hierauf sind Nightswimming und Try not to breathe , echte kleine Juwele. AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE ist aus meiner Sicht die beste Platte von R.E.M. Der Band aus Athens, Georgia, ist hier ein absoluter Meilenstein der Rockgeschichte gelungen - homogen und in sich geschlossen, herrlich sentimental und traurig. A shame, because it's otherwise a quiet and good-sounding record.
